 About Us - 2006/2008

ASAUK (Afghan Students Association UK) is an establishment of the Afghan students across different UK universities and colleges to promote the importance of education within the Afghan community.

It was established in the year 2006 as a result of an initiative started by the then Brunel (university) Afghan Society president ‘Hamdullah Mohib’.

In a meeting held by the founding members on the 6th of October 2006, ASAUK’s first committee was elected from within the founding members. Those elected as the first committee were:

  • Hamdullah Mohib as Chair
  • Jawad Farhad as Vice Chair
  • Djandark Wali as Secretary
  • Tamanna Rahimi as Treasurer
  • Manizha Sepas as Press Officer (Resigned from ASAUK on 3 Jan 2008 to pursue other commitments)
  • Mariam Ali as Membership Officer

Other additions were made to the committee as a requirement seen, which were:

  • Mohammad Hussaini as Media Officer and Press Officer
  • Naila Hadid & Aria Habibi as Events Managers
  • Rafiq Swash as Web Manager

The first pilot website was designed by Jawad Farhad and maintained by Hamdullah Mohib until Rafiq Swash took up the Web Manager’s position to design the current website.

ASAUK logo was designed by Idrees Rasouli who won the ASAUK logo design competition.

ASAUK has member representation from across different UK universities, all ambitious, friendly and fun loving.

ASAUK is run by its members for its members. It is completely a student initiative and is completely independent.

The aims of ASAUK are:

  • to provide a social and academic platform for Afghan students all over the UK to enjoy their student lives while getting the best out of their education
  • to create a sense of unity within the young Afghans
  • to encourage innovation and creativity within the young Afghans
  • to improve employment prospects of Afghans
  • to help and integrate Afghans with the wider British communities.

ASAUK believes that the Afghan students of today are the most active, patriotic and open-minded individuals the Afghan community has ever seen. To make sure their work is appreciated and they are encouraged, ASAUK was established. It represents their view and makes sure their voice is heard.
